Penn State Women's Lacrosse Tops Temple, 8-5
Philadelphia, Pa., March 23, 2004 -The Penn State Women¡¯s Lacrosse team (2-5) snapped a four-game losing streak this afternoon as it defeated Temple, 8-5. Temple falls to 1-3 on the season. Senior Katie Jeschke (Ellicott City, Md.) had two goals for the Lions and senior Katie Hartman (Annapolis, Md.) and Sophomore Lori Havrilla (Devon, Pa.) each added one goal and one assist. Temple scored the first goal of the contest five minutes into the game, but Havrilla scored on a free position shot to tie the game at one. Less than two minutes later, Hartman scored on a pass from Havrilla to put the Lions up. Three minutes later, Temple¡¯s Tiffany Pulaski tied the game at two midway through the first half. Jeschke, junior Emily Chambers (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and senior Jamie Donahue (Oreland, Pa.) each scored a goal in the final six minutes of the half to put the Lions on top 5-2. After the break, sophomore Shari Maslin (New City, N.Y.) took the ball down the field to score an unassisted goal just 30 seconds into the half. After a scoreless 14 minutes, Jeschke netted her second goal of the game before junior Kate Townsend (Collingswood, N.J.) scored the first goal of her career to put the Lions on top 8-2. Temple scored three goals, two of them free position, in the final eight minutes of the game but could not catch Penn State, who came away with an 8-5 win. Penn State goalie Lee Tortorelli (Havertown, Pa.) recorded five saves in 60 minutes of play against the Owls.
