Penn State Women's Lacrosse Pummels Davidson, 14-2
DAVIDSON, N.C., March 11, 2003 - Senior Colleen O'Hara (Ardmore, Pa.) scored four goals as the 12th-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team topped Davidson, 14-2. The Nittany Lions improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the American Lacrosse Conference while the Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the season and 1-0 in ALC play. O'Hara put Penn State on the board less than two minutes into the game, from there the Nittany Lions went on a 4-0 run behind goals from freshman Shari Maslin (New City, N.Y.), sophomore Emily Chambers (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), freshman Lori Havrilla (Devon, Pa.) and junior Katie Jeschke (Ellicott City, Md.) to pull ahead 5-0. Davidson's Whitney Diefendorf nailed a pass from freshman Eloise Grose into the back of the net, with 1:51 remaining in the first half for the Wildcats' first score. Maslin scored her second goal of the game with 14 seconds left in the half, giving the Nittany Lions a 6-1 advantage going into the break. Jeschke and O'Hara both scored their second goals of the game to open up play in the second half before Davidson's Becca McDevitt scored to make the tally 8-2. Penn State then went on to score six unanswered goals to seal the 14-2 victory. A goal from Maslin with 15:10 remaining in the game sparked the run and was followed by two goals from O'Hara and one goal each from Havrilla, junior Jamie Donahue (Oreland, Pa.) and junior Janique Craig (Doylestown, Pa.). Sophomore goalkeeper Lee Tortorelli (Havertown, Pa.) had nine saves for Penn State while only allowing two goals. The Nittany Lions remain on the road, facing Virginia on Friday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. Penn State returns home on March 25 when it hosts Temple in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
