Jeschke Named American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 4, 2003 - Two Penn State women's lacrosse players earned recognition for their roles in the Lions' 12-11 upset victory over Vanderbilt last weekend. Junior Katie Jeschke (Ellicott City, Md.) was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week while freshman Liz Frand¨¦ (Ellicott City, Md.) was tabbed as the National Rookie of the Week by womenslacrosse.com.
Jeschke scored four goals on five shots to lead the Nittany Lions past the Commodores, 12-11. Two of her goals came in the first half to aid Penn State in taking an early 4-0 lead while her third goal less than two minutes into the second half evened the score at 5-5. Her fourth goal of the afternoon came with less than 17 minutes remaining in the contest to give the Lions a 9-6 lead.
Frand¨¦, playing in her first collegiate game, was a defensive force for the Lions. She picked up three ground balls and recorded four caused turnovers while holding the Commodores to 11 goals. Frand¨¦ was also named as an honorable mention Player of the Week by insidelacrosse.com.
Ninth-ranked Penn State hosts 14th-ranked James Madison on Friday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Holuba Hall.
