Jessi Lieb Garners American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week Honors
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 28, 2006 ¨C Sophomore Jessi Lieb (Villanova, Pa.) was named American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week for her standout performance in Penn State¡¯s season opening 9-8 victory over league rival Vanderbilt on Sat., Feb. 25 in Nashville, Tenn. Lieb helped the Nittany Lions gain an early advantage in the hunt for the 2006 ALC title by recording two goals, one assist, three draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. For her game one efforts, Lieb also received player of the week honorable mention accolades from Inside Lacrosse magazine. After making an immediate impact her freshman season by starting 17 games, scoring 20 goals, and leading the team in ground balls and draw controls, Lieb is garnering a great deal of national attention as the 2006 season gets underway. She was honored on Inside Lacrosse¡¯s preseason All-American second team, the ALC¡¯s preseason all-conference squad, and was recently recognized on the Tewaaraton Trophy preseason watch list. Penn State returns to action on Thurs., March 2 when it travels to play Bucknell in a 4:00 p.m. game. The Nittany Lions open at home in Holuba Hall on Sun., March 5 versus Patriot League member Colgate. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
