The proud and rich history of Penn State women's lacrosse spans 43 years. It includes legendary coaches, record-setting careers, standout individual performances, innumerable honors, and most of all, a tradition of winning.
Led by legendary head coaches and all-time great players, Penn State has won five national championships. The Nittany Lions captured three USWLA titles (1978, 1979, 1980) and two NCAA crowns (1987, 1989).
Community service has always been a cornerstone of the Penn State women's lacrosse program. The benefits are twofold - it provides the team with the opportunity to build goodwill with the local community while allowing the squad to come together and share a common experience off the field.
To honor the memory former Penn State lacrosse player Diane Whipple, who was tragically taken in a dog attack in 2001, the program created an award in her name. The Diane Whipple Award is presented annually to the player "who displays a competitive passion for the game, and whose work ethic demonstrates the desire and determination to achieve success."
