Tara Hohenshelt is entering her 12th season as a member of the Nittany Lion women's lacrosse staff. After serving as Director of Operations for the 2010 season, she has returned to her role as an assistant coach. A 1997 graduate of Penn State, she was a defender for four years on the lacrosse team. The former Tara Rowlyk returned to Happy Valley in 1999 after serving a year as the lacrosse coach and athletic recruiter at Centenary College. Before her tenure there, she was an assistant coach at NCAA quarterfinalist Princeton University. Hohenshelt played for Penn State's 1995 NCAA semifinal team and helped the Lions reach the quarterfinals in 1996 and 1997. She served as a tri-captain in her senior year. She was also the co-captain of the Philadelphia I team that won the 1997 USWLA national championship. As an undergraduate student-athlete, Hohenshelt represented the women's lacrosse team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. She was co-chair of its public relations committee and served as an executive board member. An outstanding student with a 3.41 GPA in secondary math education, Hohenshelt was a Dean's List student for six semesters. She was twice named a Division I Academic All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and won Big Ten Conference academic honors as well. Hohenshelt was a three-sport letterwinner while at Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa. She is married to Penn State women's volleyball assistant coach Dennis Hohenshelt. The couple resides in State College with their five-year old son Jacob Owen and daughter Reese Avery, who was born in March 2010. |
