UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Juniors Jordin Pardoski (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) have been named 2014-15 Penn State women's hockey captains as announced by head coach Josh Brandwene on Tuesday. Junior Sarah Wilkie (Ashby, Mass.) and sophomore Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) will share assistant captain duties.
"Jordin, Shannon, Sarah and Laura are builders," Brandwene said. "They're 'all in' for Penn State and this program, and they care so much for their teammates. I love the positivity that they and the whole team bring to the rink every day."
Pardoski featured last season as an assistant captain, the only underclassmen to wear a letter. Pardoski has appeared in all 71 games, scoring six goals, 12 assist and 18 points, while blocking 80 shots.
Her fellow classmate, Yoxheimer, is the leading Nittany Lion in career goals (22), assists (25) and points (47) in her 70 games played in Hockey Valley. The left-winger's career also features five power play goals and three game-winners to her name, while winning 57.7 percent of her faceoffs last season.
Wilkie, who plays defense for Penn State, has become one of the top leaders in the Nittany Lion locker room. The junior has 46 games under her belt and remained an important member of the team off the ice during an injury last year in January. She has 43 blocked shots to her credit, including 25 in just 19 games last year.
Bowman had a terrific freshman campaign, scoring a team-best 10 goals in 2013-14 and earning All-CHA Rookie Team honors. She also assisted on six goals and was second on the team with 16 points. As a center, Bowman also won 51.1 percent of her faceoffs and blocked 27 shots.
Penn State opens full-team practices on Saturday, Sept. 20, ahead of its season opener Oct. 3 at perennial powerhouse Minnesota. The Nittany Lions play the first of their 16 regular-season home games at Pegula Ice Arena on Oct. 11 when they host Quinnipiac. Season tickets are on sale now for $50 by calling 1-800-NITTANY or visiting the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office Monday-Friday (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).
