DULUTH, Minn. - The Penn State women’s hockey team closed out its season-opening series with a 3-0 loss to the No. 5 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the AMSOIL Arena. Minnesota Duluth netted its three goals during the final 12:05 of regulation.
In Friday night’s matchup, the Bulldogs (2-0-0) netted their lone goal of the game just 1:22 into the contest and Nittany Lion netminder Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) closed out the evening with 22-straight saves in the 1-0 loss. Saturday, Ehresmann stopped 33-straight shots before allowing the first goal of the afternoon at 7:55 into the final period.
After the Nittany Lions (0-2-0) went to the PK at 6:57 into the third period, which was the lone penalty for either team on the day, Jalyn Elmes put the Bulldogs in front at 7:55 on her second goal of the series.
Minnesota Duluth then made it a 2-0 contest on a goal from Mallorie Iozzo at 13:10 before Sydney Brodt added to the lead at 17:21.
Offensively for the Nittany Lions, nine Penn Staters tallied shot attempts on the afternoon.
In net, Ehresmann finished with 38 saves on the day, while Jessica Convery tallied a 12-save outing for the Bulldogs.
Penn State opens its home slate next weekend against the Union Dutchwomen. Puck drop is set for Friday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m.
