Stroemel to Lead USA Hockey at University Games
State College Native Tapped as Head Coach of U.S. University Women's Team
Stroemel served as head coach of Penn State's women's club hockey team from 2007-11, leading the team to a fifth-place finish at the 2010 national tournament and an appearance in the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Women's Hockey League Final Four. He also served as head coach of the 2011 U.S. University Women's Select Team at the World University Games in Turkey.
Prior to working with the Lady Icers, Stroemel spent three seasons as an assistant coach for Penn State's Division I men's program as the team advanced to the national championship game each season.
From 1996-2004, Stroemel served as head coach of PSU's ACHA Division II men's team and guided the squad to the national tournament four times. During his tenure, he earned ACHA Division II Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors twice.
Stroemel graduated from Penn State in 1980 in advertising and earned his master's of fine arts degree in 2002 for theatre. An avid music buff and guitarist, he resides in State College with his wife, Joan, and children, Sarah and Tom.
