McAvoy and Rowland Represent Penn State at NCAA Championships

LINCOLN, Neb., April 24, 2003 - Penn State seniors Katie McAvoy (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Katie Rowland (Georgetown, Ontario) competed in the second session of the NCAA Championships in Lincoln, Neb., with McAvoy posting a 38.050 all-around score and Rowland finishing tied for ninth on the vault and tied for 16th on the floor.

McAvoy, who placed in the top two all-around competitors at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on April 12 to advance to the NCAA Championships, finished 19th in the all-around in the night session. She posted scores of 9.575 on the vault, 9.750 on the bars, 9.000 on the beam and 9.725 on the floor.

Rowland advanced to the NCAA Championships after capturing the individual vault and floor titles at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. She posted a ninth-place 9.850 on the floor in the night session and she tied for 16th place in the vault with a 9.825.
