UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., April 19 -- The Penn State women's gymnastics team heads to Auburn, Ala., and the NCAA National Championships for the first time since 2000. The squad will compete in the early preliminary team session on Thursday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. ET with Nebraska, Michigan, Utah, Oklahoma and LSU. The late session (8:00 p.m. ET) includes Georgia, BYU, Iowa State, UCLA, Alabama and Florida. The top three squads from each preliminary session advance to the Super Six to compete for the National Championship on Friday, April 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Individual event finals are slated for Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The Championships will air on a tape-delay basis on CBS on Sunday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. EST with Bonnie Bernstein, Amanda Borden and Tracy Wolfson on the call.
Regionals Recap
Penn State finished second in the NCAA West Regional Championships with a 195.375, falling only to UCLA (197.025). Host Washington finished third (195.000) and Stanford (194.750), Boise State (194.500) and Central Michigan (194.125) rounded out the rest of the field.
Freshman Kristal Uzelac finished fourth in the all-around with a 39.275 and tied for the uneven bars title with a 9.900, her eighth bars title of the season and her seventh straight. Juniors Jennifer Orlando and Lisa Clark were Penn State¡¯s top finishers on vault, each scoring a 9.875, and Uzelac finished tied for ninth on the beam with a 9.850. Uzelac and Clark also topped the Lions on the floor, tying for fifth with a 9.825.
