STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State sophomore gymnast Katie Rowland (Georgetown, Ontario) is featured in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated (dated April 2) in the publication's "Faces in the Crowd" section. Rowland, who was named the 2001 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year at the conference championships, has broken or tied a total of three school records this season and has captured a team-best five all-around titles.

The sophomore standout has been named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on three occasions this season. She set the school all-around record with a score of 39.650 at Rhode Island on Feb. 17. She also tied the school-mark on the vault at 9.950 and uneven bars (9.950).

No. 10 Penn State returns to action this weekend as it heads to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional at the University of Nebraska on Sat., April 7 beginning at 8:00 p.m. (ET). Joining the Lions at the regional will be host-school No. 3 Nebraska, No. 15 Washington, No. 19 Oklahoma, No. 23 Arizona and No. 25 Illinois State. The top two teams from each of the six regional sites across the nation will qualify for the 2001 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., on April 19-21.
