State College, PA., March 12, 2002. Penn State Gymnast, Junior Katie Rowland (Georgetown, Ontario) was named Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week for the week ending March 10th. She shares the honor with Michigan gymnast and former olympian, Elise Ray. Rowland set the Penn State all-time record for best all-around score, as she swept all five events against Rhode Island and Maryland to post an all-around total of 39.725. She was victorious on the floor exercise (9.925), vault (9.950), uneven bars (9.900) and balance beam (9.950). Her score on the vault tied a school record, and her beam score is a career best.

Rowland has been Penn State's most consistent gymnast all season, placing in the top three in each individual all-around competition this season. She placed second in the all-around competition in the Super Six challenge to open the season. This meet put Penn State up against some of the best teams in the country. She has scored a 9.900 or better on at least one event in every meet this season and is Penn State's top-scorer on all events except uneven bars. Nationally, Rowland is ranked fourth this week in the all-around, 16th on floor, 13th on balance beam and 10th on vault.

Rowland will look to improve her scores this week as the Lions take on West Virginia at Home at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
