No. 16 Penn State Women¡¯s Gymnastics Places Third At Florida
Gainesville, Fla., March 10, 2006 ¨C The 16th-ranked Penn State women¡¯s gymnastics team scored a 193.200 to place third against No. 2 Florida (196.150) and No. 7 LSU (195.275). Senior Lisa Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed sixth in the all-around with a 38.800 as senior Meredith Hoover (Dublin, Ohio) scored a 37.925 for seventh. As a team, the Nittany Lions posted scores of 48.675 on vault, 47.925 on bars, 48.050 on beam and 48.550 on floor. Clark was Penn State¡¯s top finisher on vault, scoring a fifth-place 9.825 as seniors Michelle Ilg (Colonia, N.J.) and Jennifer Orlando (Dublin, Ohio) each scored a 9.725 to tie for 12th. Hoover and sophomore Aslynn Satterfield (Boalsburg, Pa.) both tallied a 9.700 for 14th as freshman Katie Perret (Colorado Springs, Colo.) notched a 17th-place 9.600. On bars, Orlando, Perret and junior Corissa Pirkl (West Islip, N.Y.) all recorded a 9.675 to tie for 10th as Ilg (9.575), Clark (9.325) and Hoover (8.925) rounded out the Penn State competitors. Clark scored a career-high-tying 9.850 on beam to place fourth as Pirkl and Hoover recorded a 9.750 and a 9.700, respectively. Perret posted a 9.550 as junior Stephanie Sullivan (Gaithersburg, Md.) tallied a 9.200 and sophomore Lindsay Borkan (Long Grove, Ill.) notched a 9.175. Clark and junior Ashley Mehrer (Midlothian, Va.) scored a 9.800 and a 9.750, respectively, to finish sixth and eighth place on the floor as Satterfield place 11th with a 9.725. Pirkl posted a 9.675 for 13th as Hoover and Orlando each tallied a 9.600. Penn State heads to Pittsburgh for its last regular-season contest with the Panthers on March 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions then head to the Big Ten Championships, hosted by Michigan State on Saturday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
