Women¡¯s Gymnastics Finishes First In Boise State Quad Meet

BOISE, Idaho, March 11, 2005 -- The Penn State women¡¯s gymnastics team scored a 196.025 en route to finishing first at the Boise State Quad meet in Boise, Idaho. The host Broncos finished second (195.950), San Jose State placed third (193.450) and Seattle Pacific finished fourth (192.650). The Nittany Lions improve to 15-5 for the year. Penn State posted team scores of 49.250 on the vault, 48.525 on the bars, a season-high 49.150 on the beam and 49.100 on the floor. Junior Lisa Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Lions¡¯ top finisher in the all-around, scoring a 39.025 for second. Junior Meredith Hoover also competed in the all-around for Penn State, placing sixth with a 38.700. All six Penn State competitors on the vault finished among the top 10 gymnasts, led by Clark with a first-place 9.875. Sophomore Amie Olaes (Inverness, Ill.), junior Jennifer Orlando (Herndon, Va.) and senior Kate Stopper (Reinholds, Pa.) all scored a 9.850 to tie for second place, a career-high for Olaes, while freshman Kristal Uzelac (Johnstown, Pa.) placed seventh with a career-high 9.825 and Hoover scored a 9.775 for ninth. Uzelac claimed her fifth uneven bars title of the season with a first-place 9.875 as senior Cecile Allen (State College, Pa.) tied for third with a 9.825. Junior Michelle Ilg (Colonia, N.J.) tied for 13th place with a 9.675, sophomore Corissa Pirkl (West Islip, N.Y.) placed 15th with a 9.650 as Hoover and Clark came on 20th and 21st, posting scores of 9.500 and 9.475, respectively. Sophomore Genavieve Shingle (Langhorne, Pa.) was Penn State¡¯s top finisher on the beam, scoring a third-place and career-high-tying 9.875. Stopper placed fourth with a season-high 9.850 as Hoover and Clark tied for sixth, each scoring a 9.825, a career-high for Clark. Pirkl placed eighth with a 9.775 as Uzelac scored a 9.400 to tie for 20th. Stopper took home her fourth floor crown of the year with a first-place 9.900 as Clark tied for fourth with a 9.850. Orlando and Ilg both posted scores of 9.800 to tie for sixth, a season-high for Ilg, Pirkl scored a 9.750 for 10th and Hoover placed 18th with a 9.600.
