  • ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 16, 2007 ?C The 19th-ranked Penn State women??s gymnastics team came from behind to upset Big Ten rival and No. 9 Michigan, 195.900 to 195.525, Friday night in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Nittany Lions used their best team score of the season to improve to 11-3 for the year.

    As a squad, Penn State recorded a season-high 49.025 on vault, a 48.875 on bars, a 48.825 on beam and a season-best 49.175 on floor, to secure the victory. Michigan posted team scores of 49.100 on vault, 49.150 on bars, 48.350 on beam and 48.925 on floor.

    Freshman Alexandra Brockway (Macungie, Pa.) was Penn State??s top finisher on vault, scoring a second-place 9.850. Freshmen Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) and Rosie Smith (Waterford, Pa.) both notched a 9.825 to tie for fourth as freshman Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) posted a 9.775 for seventh. Sophomore Katie Perret (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and junior Aslynn Satterfield (Boalsburg, Pa.) rounded out the Nittany Lion competitors, scoring a 9.750 and 9.700, respectively.

    On bars, Perret placed third with a 9.825 as freshman Lindsey Montross (Roseville, Calif.) posted a fifth-place 9.800. Brockway, junior Lindsay Borkan (Long Grove, Ill.) and senior Corissa Pirkl (West Islip, N.Y.) all tallied a 9.750 for seventh as senior Amie Olaes (Inverness, Ill.) posted a 9.725.

    Perret brought home her second consecutive balance beam title with a season-best-tying 9.825, sharing the title with Michigan??s Tatjana Thuener-Rego. Personett placed third with a 9.800 as Borkan tied for fourth with a 9.775. Senior Stephanie Sullivan (Gaithersburg, Md.) posted a 9.725 for sixth as Rohrbaugh tied for eighth with a 9.700 and Brockway posted a 9.325.

    Personett captured her third overall floor crown with a career-high-tying 9.900, her second 9.9 in as many meets. Satterfield equaled her season-best with a 9.875 to tie for second as Smith finished fifth with a 9.825. Senior Ashley Mehrer (Midlothian, Va.) recorded a 9.800 for sixth as Rohrbaugh posted a 9.775 for seventh and Borkan scored a 9.275.

    Penn State returns home to host Ohio State in a double-dual with the Nittany Lion men on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall. The meet will be televised live on WPSU.
