Three Penn State Women's Gymnasts Place In Top Three At Cat Classic
Columbia, Mo., Feb. 7, 2004 - Three Penn State women's gymnasts placed in the top three in the individual competition of the Cat Classic hosted by the University of Missouri. The top 10 individual competitors from last night's team competition moved on to compete for the individual crowns today.
On the vault, junior Lisa Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a 9.800, good for sixth place while freshman Gena Shingle (Langhorne, Pa.) notched a seventh-place 9.750. On the bars, Clark claimed the second-place spot with a career-high 9.875. Shingle placed third on the beam with a career-high 9.850 while sophomore Meredith Hoover (Dublin, Ohio) posted a sixth-place 9.725. Sophomore Jennifer Orlando (Herndon, Va.) and junior Kate Stopper (Reinholds, Pa.) rounded out the Nittany Lion competitors, placing ninth (9.275) and 10th (8.675), respectively. Stopper claimed the third-place slot on the floor with a 9.850 as the lone Penn State competitor in the event. The Nittany Lions return home on Feb. 14 when they host the Golden Gophers of Minnesota at 7:00 p.m. in a double-dual with the Penn State men's team. The meet will be televised live locally on WPSX.
