No. 19 Penn State Women¡¯s Gymnastics Tops N.C. State, 193.850-192.625
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., January 27, 2007 ¨C The 19th-ranked Penn State women¡¯s gymnastics team closed out its three-meet home stand with a 193.850-192.625 win over North Carolina State Saturday night at Rec Hall. As a team, Penn State scored a 48.525 on vault, a 49.050 on bars, a 48.000 on beam and 48.275 on floor. North Carolina State¡¯s Taylor Seaman claimed the overall all-around title with a 38.650 as freshman Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) posted a 38.200 for second. The Nittany Lions started the meet on vault, as Personett and freshman Rosie Smith. (Waterford, Pa.) both tied for first with a 9.750, a career high for Personett. Freshman Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) placed fourth with a personal-best 9.700 and freshman Alexandra Brockway (Macungie, Pa.) tallied a 9.675 for fifth. Sophomore Katie Perret (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Amie Olaes (Inverness, Ill.) rounded out the rotation with a 9.650 and 9.550, respectively. On the bars, Perret took home the crown with a 9.850 as Brockway and freshman Lindsey Montross (Roseville, Calif.) tied for second with a 9.825, a career high for both gymnasts. Olaes placed fifth with a career-high-tying 9.800 as junior Lindsay Borkan (Long Grove, Ill.) scored a season-best 9.750 for seventh and Personett posted a 9.725 for ninth. Penn State moved to the beam in the third rotation, with senior Stephanie Sullivan (Gaithersburg, Md.) captured the title with a 9.800 as Rohrbaugh and Perret scored a 9.750 to tie for second. Borkan placed sixth with a 9.700 as freshman Allie Southard (Nanuet, N.Y.) notched a 9.000 and Personett recorded an 8.850. The Nittany Lions closed out the evening on floor, as Personett captured the title with a career-high 9.875. Smith and Rohrbaugh both tied for third with a 9.775, a personal-best for both, as senior Ashley Mehrer (Midlothian, Va.) recorded a 9.650 for eighth, Borkan tallied a 9.200 and Montross posted a 9.150. Penn State takes to the road to face No. 17 West Virginia on Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions return home to face rival Pittsburgh on Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall.
