Assistant coach Travis Doak begins his first season with the Penn State women's gymnastics program. With the Nittany Lions, Doak will aid in recruiting and training student-athletes along with various other aspects of the program.
"Penn State has a great gymnastics program," said Doak. "I look forward to working with a coaching staff and team that has the ability to be strong contenders for a national championship."
Most recently, Doak served as an assistant women's gymnastics coach at the University of New Hampshire from 2006 to 2007. There his responsibilities included budgetary items, planning and executing team workouts, recruiting, working with the Children's Community Program and compiling and producing video highlights.
"Travis is an up-and-coming young coach who will be a huge asset to the Penn State gymnastics program," said Shephard. "He will be responsible for recruiting the top student-athletes to Penn State and will be a big help in the gym and training arena."
As an undergraduate at West Virginia, Doak acted as a volunteer assistant for the women's gymnastics program, assisting with recruit evaluations, spotting and program fundraising. From 2003 to 2006, he also served as a supervisor and instructor for the Lifetime Activities Program, aiding in employee management and class scheduling.
Doak has served on the summer camp staffs at Woodward Academy, the University of Arkansas, West Virginia University and the Parkettes, also acting as the co-head coach of the Gymstars Gymnastics Team in Clarksburg, W.V., from 2000 to 2004.
Doak graduated from West Virginia in 2006 with a bachelor degree in sports management with a minor in communication studies. He is currently participating in the Masters Athletic Coaching Education Distance Learning program at West Virginia, with an anticipated graduation date in the spring of 2008.
