(UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.) December 5, 2005- Head coach Denise St. Pierre and the Penn State women¡¯s golf team signed three high school seniors for its 2010 recruiting class this past week. Michele Romano, of West Islip, N.Y. will come to Penn State next fall with an impressive high school and amateur record. Lindsay Cullen, from Allen, Texas and Katherine Murphy, of Portsmouth, R.I. also bring a lot of experience to the Nittany Lions.

¡°Romano is somebody we¡¯ve been watching since she was 12 years old. I¡¯ve watcher her grow up,¡± said St.Pierre. ¡°She was a spitfire then and still has that attitude now¡­she brings a lot of talent and color to our team.¡± In addition to her second place finish at the PGA Junior Series this past summer, Romano has finished five other times in the top 10. At the PGA Junior Series, hosted by Penn State, she had her best finish, shooting 75-75, with a two-under-par final round of 70. ¡°I visited Penn State when I was in 8th grade and I¡¯ve been pretty much obsessed with it ever since,¡± said Romano.

Lindsay Cullen finished in the top five three times in the summer of 2005. She carded her best score at the AJGA-Randy Smith Classic with 73-75-80, good for the third-place finish. She finished fifth at the Texas State High School Boys & Girls 5A Championship, with an amateur career low-round of 72. Cullen also competed in the AJGA-Indianas Chicago Junior Open in July, scoring 75-77-75-227, and coming in sixth overall. ¡°I¡¯m definitely excited to go to Penn State,¡± says Cullen. ¡°I can¡¯t wait to see the difference in the competition and the education¡­Campus is great and I can¡¯t wait to play in that environment.¡± St.Pierre said that, ¡°Lindsay is highly touted in the Texas area. She¡¯s the kind of player who really focused on gold. She loves the game and loves to compete.¡±

Katherine Murphy was noticed by St.Pierre at the Junior Worlds in San Diego, Calif. ¡°Murphy brings a lot of athleticism to the table. It will be interesting to see how she improves because she is someone who will only get better and better,¡± says Coach. Katherine joins her fellow soon-to-be teammates with three notable finishes in her amateur resume. Murphy won the Challenge Cup Championship hosted by Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I.. She also had the top finish at the Ocean State Women¡¯s Amateur at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence, R.I.. On August 19, Murphy took third in the U.S. Challenge Cup- World Series of Junior Golf. She says she ¡°loves the small town feel¡± that Penn State brings. ¡°I am very excited to be there.¡±

After a successful fall season, the Nittany Lion golfers will be back in competition when they head to Ireland in March 2006.
