University Park, Pa.- The Penn State women's golf team has partnered with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to raise money for the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center through their new campaign, Birdies for the Heart.
Birdies for the Heart is a year-long pledge campaign allowing fans to pledge a monetary donation of their choice, per birdie made by a member of the women's golf team. The campaign is new to the Nittany Lions program this year and is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for women's heart health.
Until recently, treatment for heart disease was based off the medical research performed only on men, however heart disease kills more women than men each year. The Streisand Women's Heart Center is at the forefront of heart research and heart healthy education for women.
The Nittany Lions want to #BePartOfTheSolution by raising $10,000, this season, to benefit the efforts of the Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Since its launch at the Nittany Lion Invitational in September, Birdies for the Heart has received a number of pledges ranging from $0.50 to $13. To date, the ladies have tallied a grand total of 197 birdies in five tournaments throughout the fall 2017 season, raising a total of $6,995.
"I am extremely proud of this team and all they have accomplished this past fall season," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "Not only were we able to climb 21 spots in the national ranking, we were able to use our success to help raise awareness and funds for women's heart health."
The team is looking to further their efforts to raise awareness and funds throughout their spring season, beginning in February.
To join the Penn State women's golf team in their efforts and to #BePartOfTheSolution make a pledge today. Complete the attached PLEDGE FORM and return it to Denise St. Pierre by email at email@example.com.
