Penn State Women's Golf Finishes 10th at Landfall Tradition
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2003) - Sophomore Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) shot a 5-over-par 77 Sunday to finish 23rd and help the Penn State women's golf team take 10th place at the Landfall Tradition held at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. New Mexico fired a 291-304-296-891 to post a four-stroke victory over Tulane (300-296-299-895) for the team title at the par 72, 6,973-yard layout at the Jack Nicklaus course. Tulsa was third at 304-295-301=900, Arkansas was fourth at 304-294-304=902 and Furman was fifth at 302-299-304=905. The Nittany Lions improved each round at the tournament as they posted a team score of 320 on the first day of action on Friday. They finished with 320-310-309=939. Weinerth carded a 79-73-77-229 to finish in 23rd followed by teammates Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) in 32nd (79-77-76=232, Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) was 44th (86-80-74-240) and Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) was 47th at 82-80-82-244 to round out the Penn State scoring. Freshman Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y.) also competed and finished 50th at 80-84-83-247, but did not figure in the team scoring. The Nittany Lions wrapped up their fall schedule and will not be in action again until Feb. 20-24, 2004 at the Puerto Rico Classic.
