UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Oct. 12, 2003) - The Penn State Women's Golf team jumped one spot in the standings after day one of the Nittany Lion Fall Invitational to finish second behind three top-ten individual efforts Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course.

Carol Green shot a remarkable 4-under par 68 on Sunday to lead James Madison to the team title with a score of 900, which represents the second-best 54-hole score in the event's 28 years. Green also took the individual medal with a three-round total of 212 (72-72-68). The tournament's individual record score is 210, set by Oregon's Pam Sowden in the fall of 1999.

Penn State took second (901) followed by Rollins (903), Maryland (915) and Princeton (942) to round out the top five. Ohio took sixth(947), Bowling Green and Yale tied for seventh (958), Stetson was ninth (978), St. Francis-Pa. finished 10th (982) and Bucknell took 11th (1010).

The Nittany Lions had six golfers finish in the top 20 individually, including three in the top 10. Sophomore Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) paced Penn State with a three-round total of 225 (75-74-76), good for a fifth-place tie. Freshman Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y.) took eighth (71-80-75-226), freshman Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) was ninth (78-74-75-227), freshman Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) was 12th (78-75-75-228) and junior Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) was 19th (78-75-79-232). Senior Rosemarie Fuster (Lima, Peru) entered the invitational as an individual and took 15th with a 78-74-79-231.

Penn State will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship Oct. 19-21 at the University of Tennessee.
