Penn State Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Nittany Lion Women's Fall Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, PA. (Oct. 3, 2004) - Junior Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) shot a 2-under-par final round of 70 to lead the Penn State women's golf team to a fourth place showing with a team score of 289-314-313-916 in the Nittany Lion Women's Fall Invitational, which concluded Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course.

Weinerth, whose 70 represents the best round of her career, finished in fourth place overall with a 75-79-70-224. It is also the second best 54-hole score of her career.

UC-Irvine won the invitational with the second best 54-hole score in the event's history, a 296-298-303-897. UC-Irvine's Selanee' Henderson won the individual medal with a 75-72-73-220.

College of Charleston finished second (309-295-298-902), Princeton was third (302-304-309-915) and Rollins was fifth (311-302-313-926).

Junior Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) finished 10th for Penn State with a 71-77-81-229, junior Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) and senior Sandra de la Cruz (Edinburg, Texas) finished tied for 12th. Wolfe fired a 72-78-81-231, and de la Cruz shot 76-79-76-231. de la Cruz competed as an individual in the tournament.

Sophomore Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) took 19th with a 71-80-81-232, and sophomore Tina Kocinski (Mequon, Wisc.) finished 59th with a 81-83-84-248 for the Nittany Lions.

Also competing for Penn State as individuals were sophomore Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y.), who finished 19th with 73-76-83-232, freshman Christin Pacacha (Williamsport, Pa.) took 31st with 80-80-77-237, sophomore Betsy Houseman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was 34th with 79-76-83-232, freshman Anne Taylor (Boalsburg, Pa.) took 51st with 80-81-84-245, junior Nicole Love (Greensburg, Pa.) finished 53rd with 77-88-81-246, sophomore Courtney Gagnon (Naperville, Ill.) was 57th with 83-80-84-247 and freshman Emily Pavesich (Glen Arm, Md.) took 77th with 83-91-84-258.
