Penn State Women's Golf Team to Compete in Cincinnati Classic
Sept. 16, 2010
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
The women's golf team will take the course for the second time this season as they head to the Cincinnati Classic, hosted by the University of Cincinnati. The tournament will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21.
"I'm certainly more excited about getting on the road again. We had some good things happen in S.C. and we want to capitalize a little more this weekend," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "We're confident that we can go and be very competitive at the tournament."
The women's golf team will keep the same starters it had in the previous tournament. Sophomores Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) and Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) look to lead the Nittany Lions after each finishing a team-best tied for 45th place at the Cougar Classic. Ransone tied her career-best round of 71 on the third day of the tournament.
Seniors Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) will also stay in the lineup, along with freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.). Courtney Kordes (Natrona Heights, Pa.) will compete for Penn State as an individual.
The 15-team tournament will take place on the Elks Run Golf Course. Head coach Denise St. Pierre expects Florida International, Memphis and Southern Mississippi to be some of the top schools participating.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes, with 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The four lowest scores from each team's five golfers will determine each school's score. A shotgun start will begin each day of play.
