Penn State Women¡¯s Golf Finishes 13th at Cougar Classic

Hanahan, S.C., September 16, 2003 - The Penn State women¡¯s golf team finished 13th overall at College of Charleston¡¯s 17-team Cougar Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday.

Sophomore Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y) was Penn State¡¯s top finisher as she placed in a tie for 17th overall following rounds of 76 and 74 and a three round total of 227 (+11).

Notre Dame captured the team title at the 54-hole event with a three-round total of 889 (+25), which was six shots better than second-place Furman (895/+31). Miami (Fla.) (897/+33), North Carolina State (908/+44) and Mississippi (910/+46) rounded out the top five.

Freshman Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) finished tied for 21st following a 54-hole score of 228 (+12) while Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) (69th), Betsy Houseman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) (76th) and Rosemarie Fuster (Lima, Peru) (77th) rounded out Penn State¡¯s individual finishers.

Miami (Fla.) Tina Miller won the individual title with a 214 (70-69-75) (-2).

Penn State returns to the links on Saturday, September 27 at the Lady Northern Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
