Women's Golf Opens Season at Lady Northern

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 15, 2006 - The Penn State women's golf team will open up the 2006-07 season this weekend when it travels to East Lansing, Mich. to play in the Lady Northern. The Lady Northern is an annual fall tournament that is held at the same course that the Big Ten Championships will be held at the following spring.

This year's tournament will be held at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing. The par 72, 6,237-yard course will host 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. The tournament field includes 10 of the 11 Big Ten teams, with only Purdue being absent, as well as two Mid-American Conference teams in Kent State and Toledo. The Nittany Lions will return home to host their only home tournament of the year next weekend, the Nittany Lions Invitational, which will be held at the Penn State Blue Course September 22-24.
