Penn State Women¡¯s Golf Sits in 12th Place Following Opening Day of Cougar Classic

Hanahan, S.C., September 15, 2003 ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s golf team resides in 12th place following its first action of the season at the opening round of College of Charleston¡¯s Cougar Classic Monday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions shot 314 overall (+26) and enter Tuesday¡¯s final round 29 strokes behind current leader Notre Dame (285, -3).

Freshman Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) led Penn State in the first round with a team-best 75 (+3) and is tied for 24th overall.

Notre Dame¡¯s Noriko Nakazaki and Mississippi¡¯s Jade Plonich are tied atop the individual leaderboard after each carded a 69 (-3).

Sophomore Amber Weinerth (Auburn, Ala.) fired an opening round score of 77 (T-37th) and Karen Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) is currently tied for 49th following a first round 79.

Rosemarie Fuster (Lima, Peru) (83, T-70th) and Betsy Houseman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) (86, T-81st) rounded out Penn State¡¯s first round totals.
