Women's Golf Places Fifth At Lady Kat Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky., September 15, 2002 ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s golf team placed fifth overall (619) in the final standings of the Lady Kat Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The University of Tennessee pulled ahead and took first place in the field of 16 teams with a 604 total over two rounds. The University of South Florida followed in second with an overall score of 612. Third was tied by Mississippi State University and Kentucky Blue with a score of 614. Tennessee¡¯s Violeta Retamoza led all players with a 144. Tied for second, Tennessee¡¯s Jessica Shepley and Kentucky Blue¡¯s Kelly Anders, each with a 145 (+1). Senior Katie Futcher (The Woodlands, Texas) finished with the highest standing for the Nittany Lions. She tied for 4th with a 147 (+3). Senior, Meghan Mull (Naperville, Ill.) placed in a tie for 15th after shooting a two-round total of 153 (+9). Freshman Amber Weinreth (Auburn, NY) shared a piece of 25th place, each with a 157 (+13). The Penn State women¡¯s golf team returns to action on Saturday, September 21 when it opens play at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
