Penn State WomenĄŻs Golf in Sixth Place After Two Rounds

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) September 14, 2005 - The Penn State womenĄŻs golf team is currently in sixth place at the Oregon State Invitational. With a 590 two-round total, Brighman Young University is presently in first.

The Nittany Lions are playing very well with junior Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y.) leading the pack. With her teammates very close behind, she shot 74-75-149. Senior Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) scored a 77 in the first round, with a two-stroke improvement in the second, totaling 152.

One of the LionsĄŻ standouts, senior Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.), also scored well, with 77 strokes in each round. Transfer from Arizona State, sophomore Sara Lester (Walnut Creek, Cali.) is proving she will be a great asset to Penn State this season. She scored 82-75-155. Senior Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) finishes out the starters for the Lions. She shot 75-85-160.

The Nittany Lions look to improve today, and finish the first event of the season on a high note with one more round on the par-72, 6,260-yard course.

Tee times for the final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The leaders ¨C BYU, Washington State and Oregon State ¨C will tee off beginning at 9 a.m.
