STATE COLLEGE, Pa.- Former Penn State golfer Emily Marron has been named the assistant women's golf coach, head coach Denise St. Pierre announced on Tuesday.

Marron, a native of Johnstown, Pa., completed her playing time for the Nittany Lions in 1998. An Academic all-Big Ten honoree, she served as the team's co-captain as senior.

In high school, Marron played golf for the Allegheny-Clarion Valley HS boys' team.

Since graduating from PSU in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in recreation and park management, Marron worked for one year as an assistant golf professional at The Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., Phil Mickelson's home course.

A member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division, Marron taught at the Peter Kostis/Gary McCord Learning Center at Grayhawk. She is pursuing Class A status from the LPGA Program.

"Early on, Emily express interest in getting involved in collegiate coaching," St. Pierre said. "When assistant coach Gary Korman left, she was the first person I called. Certainly, I feel this is a good match for Emily and for us. She obviously loves Penn State and brings a lot of golf experience with her. I think it's good for our players to look at what she's done in her career. I'm very excited she's with us."

In the season opener, the Nittany Lion women travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the College of Charleston Invitational on Sept. 8-10.
