Katie Futcher Finishes 58th at 2005 U.S. Women's Open




UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. (JUNE 30, 2005) - Katie Futcher, a former two-time all-American at Penn State, wrapped up her first major on Sunday with a final-round 79 to finish tied for 58th with a 73-76-76-79-304 at the 2005 U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship at Cherry Hills Village.

Korea's Birdie Kim fired a plus-1 72 on Sunday to win the championship with a plus-3 74-72-69-72-287. Futcher was ranked eighth at the championship with an average driving distance of 265.5.

Futcher qualified for the U.S. Women's Open via local and regional qualifiers. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, she was a three-time Academic All-American, and a three-time All-Big Ten selection while winning five tournaments as a Penn State golfer. She is competing in her first season on the Futures Tour.

Her best finish this season was at the Jalapeno Futures Golf Classic in McAllen, Texas, where she finished tied for 26th with a 72-74-73-219.
