Women's Golf Recruit Leads Prep Team to State Championship
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 9, 2006 - Lindsay Cullen, one of three incoming freshmen for the women's golf team, recently led her high school team to the Texas Class 5A state championship while finishing in a tie for sixth place individually. A native of Allen, Texas and a member of the girl's golf team at Allen High School, Cullen also won the Region I individual title prior to the team's success at the state tournament. Cullen shot rounds of 72-75 for a team-best 147 in the state championship held in Austin, helping lead Allen to its second consecutive state championship. Allen became just the seventh team ever to win consecutive state championships in girl's golf and the first school from north of Austin to accomplish the feat. Making Cullen's feat even more amazing is that she played in only two tournaments during the high school season after missing most of the season due to an auto accident in the winter. In her first tournament back, she won the regional championship held in Lubbock by shooting two-over 146 (73-73) in the two-round tournament. Cullen is one of three women's golf recruits that will be coming to State College in the fall in addition to Katherine Murphy of Portsmouth, R.I. and Michele Romano of West Islip, N.Y.
