Katie Futcher Shoots 73 In Final Two Rounds of NCAA Women¡¯s Golf Championships
West Lafayette, Ind., May 27, 2003 ¨C Senior Katie Futcher (The Woodlands, Texas) shot 73 during the third and fourth rounds of the NCAA Women¡¯s Golf Championships to move into a tie for 55th place in the final standings.
The NCAA Championships were held at the par 72, 6,225 yard Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. Southern California won the team title. Futcher¡¯s scores improved dramatically after carding an 86 in the first round. She shot a 78 in the second round and one over 73¡¯s during each of the last two rounds for a score of 310. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, Futcher was eight over par during her last three rounds combined. She posted the fifth-best score among all players from Big Ten teams. At the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) banquet held at the end of the tournament, Futcher was named a second-team NGCA All-American. This is the second year in a row Futcher was named an NGCA All-American. Futcher was ranked No. 29 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. She has been the Nittany Lions¡¯ scoring leader all four years during her brilliant career.
