Women’s Golf in tenth at NCAA East Regional
Clemmons, N.C., May 9, 2003 – After the second round of action at the NCAA East Regional Championships, the No. 44 ranked Penn State women’s golf team is currently in tenth place in a 21-team field after turning in a twenty-two over par round of 306 on Friday at the Par 71, 6,116-Yard Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The top eight teams and top two individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships at Purdue University, which will be held May 20-23 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind. Duke is in the lead for the second day in a row with a 574 (288-286). Vanderbilt (295-288-583), Georgia (294-290-584), University of North Carolina (301-287-588), Auburn (298-291-589), Florida State (290-302-592), Wake Forest (307-293-600), and Furman (307-293-600) round out the top ten. Leading the individual action for the Nittany Lions is senior Katie Futcher (The Woodlands, Texas), who tallied a three-under par 68 in the second round of competition. Both senior Cynthia Skilton (Paoli, Pa.) and freshman Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) are tied for 72nd, where they fired a 78 and 82, respectively. Senior Keri Dugan (Erie, Pa.) is currently tied for 77th after shooting a 79. Senior Meghan Mull (Naperville, Ill.) carded an 81 for a tie for 88th place.
