Penn State WomenĄŻs Golf is in 11th place after first round of NCAA East Regional Championships

Clemmons, N.C., May 8, 2003 ¨C The Penn State womenĄŻs golf team is currently in 11th place after their first round of competition at the NCAA East Regional Championships being held at the Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. Wake Forest is the host institution.

Freshman Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.), who is playing in her first NCAA East Regional, is leading the way for the Nittany Lions with a tie for 24th and a first round score of 74. Senior Katie Futcher (The Woodlands, Texas) is in a tie for 31st place after shooting a four-over par 75. Seniors Keri Dugan (Erie, Pa.), Meghan Mull (Naperville, Ill.) and Cynthia Skilton (Paoli, Pa.) are tied for 62nd place after carding a 78.

The Nittany Lions tallied a first round score of 305. Duke is leading the way with a four-over par 288. Florida State (290), Georgia (294), Vanderbilt (295), Auburn (298), East Carolina (301), University of North Carolina (301), Arizona (303), North Carolina State (303), and South Carolina (303) round out the top ten.

The second round of the three round event begins Friday at 7:30 a.m. Live results will be available on www.GOPSUsports.com or www.golfstat.com throughout the competition.
