Katie Futcher Earns All-Big Ten Golf Honors
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State women's golfer Katie Futcher (Woodlands, Tex.) earned All-Big honors after placing tenth at the Big Ten Championships in Urbana, Ill. Futcher shot a total score of 311 (+23) shooting three rounds of 77 and one round of 80. As a team, Penn State tied for eighth overall with a 72-hole score of 1229. The Nittany Lions had to endure the wet conditions and wind gusts of 40+ miles per hour during the final 27 holes of play. The tough playing conditions showed as their final two rounds of 337 and 338 were well-off their first two rounds of 315 and 306. Ohio State won the overall team championship outdistancing Purdue by ten strokes. The Buckeyes shot a score of 1220, while the Boilermakers shot 1230. The individual winner also hailed from Ohio State. Mollie Fankhauser shot rounds of 75-68-83-78 for a total score of 304 (+16). Malinda Johnson of Wisconsin, Le Anna Wicks of Michigan and Caroline Laurens of Purdue all tied for second with scores of 305 (+17). Other finishers for the Nittany Lions included, Meghan Mull (Naperville, Ill.) who tied for 28th with a score of 322, Cynthia Skilton (Paoli, Pa.) who tied for 39th with a score of 327 and Keri Dugan (Erie, Pa.) who shot a score of 336 to tie for 56th. Penn State will have to wait and see if the qualify for the NCAA East Regional, which will take place May 9-11.
