Women¡¯s Golf Heads to Big Ten Championships April 28-30

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA; April 26, 2006- The Penn State women¡¯s golf team will go to Bloomington, Indiana this weekend for the Big Ten Women¡¯s Golf Championships, hosted by Indiana University. The event will be 72 holes of competition with 36 holes Friday (April 28), 18 holes Saturday (April 29) and a final 18 holes Sunday (April 30). The Indiana University Golf Course will be set up for a par of 72 and 6,477 yards.

The Nittany Lions have had a successful 2005-06 season, winning the Lady Duke Invitational just a few weeks ago. Team captain Amber Weinerth (Auburn, NY) looks to her fourth Big Ten Championship appearance, as junior Maggie Lester (Oswego, NY) goes in as the top seed for Penn State, ranking 10th overall.

Also competing for the Nittany Lions is senior Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.). Wolfe has had an impressive season so far, including a season-best round of 73 at the Anteater Invitational early this spring. Sophomore Sara Lester (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and junior Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) are also heading to Indiana. Lester had her best finish competing as an individual at the Lady Duke/Bonnie Hoover Invitational hosted by James Madison University. She finished tied for 20th overall. Paik also had her best performance in Harrisonburg, Virginia, coming in tied for eighth.

Co-captain Lauren Lundy finishes out the competing squad. Lundy finished 20th at the Anteater Invitational in March, where the Nittany Lions finished fourth out of the eight teams.
