Women¡¯s Golf Travels To Big Ten Championships
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s golf team will compete at the Big Ten Championships Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28 at the Spring Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill. The Nittany Lions finished ninth last year and should improve on that performance this year.
Penn State is coming off a victory at the James Madison Invitational where they shot a 611, which was the second best 36-hole score in school history. The Nittany Lions have had six top ten finishes during the 2001-2002 season. Katie Futcher led the Nittany Lions with a 34th place finish at last year¡¯s Championship. Futcher has won three tournaments this year and will be a contender for a top five finish. She has the highest Big Ten finish in Penn State history with a fourth place in 2000. Meghan Mull placed 37th last year and is second on the team in overall stroke average this year. She will challenge for a top 15 finish. In all, Penn State has five golfers who competed at last year¡¯s Big Ten¡¯s, which gives them the experience they will need to earn a top five finish. The Big Ten Championship consists of 72 holes of play, with the first and second rounds set for Friday, April 26, the third round on Saturday, April 27, and the final round on Sunday, April 28. There will be split-tees on Holes 1 and 10 for all four rounds of play. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. ET on Hole 1 and 8:15 a.m. on Hole 10 for rounds one, three and four. Second round tee times are scheduled to begin at Noon on Hole 1 and 12:15 p.m. on Hole 10. Tee-times, pairings and results can be found at www.fightingillini.com.
