Lions Through Three Rounds at Big Ten Championships
ANN ARBOR, MICH. April 23, 2005 - Junior Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) leads Penn State with a three-round score of 77-79-87-243 heading into the final round of the Big Ten Championships, held at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor. Weinerth is tied for 32nd place in the field and the Nittany Lions are in 11th place as a team. Ohio State holds the top spot, leading No. 2 Michigan by a remarkable 32 strokes. The final round will begin in a shotgun-start format Sunday at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting. The golfers have battled inclement weather, including rain and snow, for much of the tournament. The University of Michigan will delay play up to 11 a.m. going by half hours. After 11 a.m. should the weather not permit, play will be cancelled and the award ceremony will be held based on the first three rounds. Senior Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) is tied for 34th place after shooting 77-81-86-244. Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y.) is the third Nittany Lion in the top 40, as she shot a 79-80-86-245 through the first three rounds. She is currently tied for 38th place. Christin Pachaca (Williamsport, Pa.) is in 51st place after shooting an 80-84-89-253. Emily Pavesich (Glen Arm, Md.) shot a 83-86-89-258 and is tied for 55th place while Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) rounds out the Lions' squad with a 80-85-94-259, good enough to tie for 57th place. Overall, Ohio State's Kristen White leads the field with a 73-73-76-222. The Buckeyes hold the top four individual spots in the tournament.
