Women's Golf Off to Good Start at the William and Mary Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG, Va.; March 24, 2007- The women's golf team continues their spring season this weekend at the William and Mary Invitational. After round one of the competition, the Nittany Lions are in sixth place out of the 18 teams participating with a round score of 37-over 325. With a score of 5-over 77, senior Evelyn Paik finished the first round in a tied ninth place. Paik currently leads the tournament with the most birdies after shooting four. The Nittany Lions totaled eight birdies, more than any other school in the competition. Senior Maggie Lester, who shot 7-over 79, had an impressive first round. She finished tied in 21st place. Megan Padua, Christin Pacacha, and Katherine Murphy also helped the Nittany Lions to its sixth place standing in round one. Emily Pavasich competed as an individual. Western Michigan is currently in first place with a score of 22-over 310. Columbia University is only one stroke behind in second place. Laura Bavaird of Western Michigan was the only player to shoot par and is currently in first place individually. The second and final round of the tournament will be held Sunday, March 25 with tee times starting at 8 a.m. Results can be found at www.golfstat.com.
