Nittany Lions Finish 16th at Pinehurst Challenge Behind Play of Weinerth




PINEHURST, N.C. (Mar. 8, 2005) - Junior Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) paced the Penn State women's golf team with a 10-over-par 82 on Tuesday as the Nittany Lions wrapped up the Pinehurst Challenge by finishing 16th with a team score of 332-317-334-983.

Washington State won the tournament with 303-301-314-918, UNC-Wilmington was second with 312-306-312-928, Oregon was third with 313-315-317-945, Mississippi State was fourth 319-305-322-946, and East Carolina wrapped up the Top 5 with 302-319-330-951.

Weinerth finished her three rounds with 79-81-82-242. She was followed by sophomore Maggie Lester (Oswego, N.Y) with 83-76-87-246, junior Katrin Wolfe (Johnstown, Pa.) with 84-80-86-250, senior Lauren Lundy (Wayne, Pa.) with 86-82-83-251, and sophomore Evelyn Paik (Toronto, Ontario) with 88-80-83-251.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action Apr. 9-10 at the Lady Duke Invitational.
