Women's Golf Finishes Second At Carolina Classic

Pinehurst, N.C., March 2, 2003 ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s golf team finished second overall in the 22-team field at the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Collegiate Classic in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Coach Denise St. Pierre¡¯s Nittany Lions shot a 933. East Carolina captured the title with a 920, followed by Penn State, UNC Wilmington (935), Georgia State (938), and Jacksonville State (947).

Senior Katie Futcher (The Woodlands, Texas) had a strong third place finish with a final score of 225 (76-74-75). Senior Keri Dugan (Erie, Pa.) shot a low 71 in the third round to help her tie for fifth place with a final score of 231 (84-76-71). Freshman Amber Weinerth (Auburn, N.Y.) carded a 234 (79-80-75) tying for 15th overall.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action on Monday, March 10 at the Peggy Kirk Invitational hosted by Rollins College in Orlando, Florida.
