NFHCA Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
 - The Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-American Team was announced on Tuesday with 48 student-athletes earning first, second or third-team recognition. Among the 48 student-athletes were two Nittany Lions, this marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons Penn State has had at least two players selected to All-America teams.

National champion Connecticut led all schools with five All-American selections following its undefeated season, with three of those on the first team. North Carolina, Louisville, Michigan, Duke, and Syracuse each placed three student-athletes on the All-American Team, while Princeton, Virginia, Maryland, Northwestern, Delaware, Penn State, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's and Boston College had two apiece. An additional 10 schools had one All-American selection as 25 schools were represented.

All seven All-Region honorees were huge contributors for Penn State this past season, helping the Nittany Lions make a second-straight appearance in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game while also advancing to the Quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.

Moira Putsch, a 2016 All-American, doubled up on her honors earning 2017 First-Team accolades after starting all 22 games for Penn State finishing the season as the leading scorer for the Nittany Lions in back-to-back seasons contributing a career-high 21 goals while adding 15 assists for a team-high 57 points - the 11th highest total in program history. The Media, Pa. native also recorded six game-winning shots throughout the season for the Blue & White, three more than last season, and posted back-to-back hat tricks in games against Rutgers and Indiana to close out the regular season. Putsch was also honored as a First-Team All-Region honoree.

Skyler Fretz was named a Second-Team All-American for the first time in her career following her third-career NFHCA All-Region honor a few weeks ago. Fretz's All-American honor comes after a season that saw the senior record nine defensive saves improving her career total to 14. Fretz also scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke during a 7-1 rout of Indiana to close out the regular season.

Putsch and Fretz become the 102nd and 103rd All-Americans overall in program history beginning with the first ever Penn State field hockey All-American Charlene Morett back in 1977.
