Galie Named Field Hockey Player of the Week

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., October 31, 2000 - Penn State field hockey senior forward Maegan Galie (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, announced conference officials today. It is the second time this season that Galie has been given the honor.

Galie led the Lady Lions (15-4, 5-1 Big Ten) to a pair of wins last week. She tallied the game-winning goals in the contests at Penn and Ohio State, while picking up an assist against the Quakers. The senior leads the team in assists (11) and is second in scoring (35). She also ranks fourth on PSU's all-time scoring list with 150 points and is sixth in goals (52) and assists (46).

In the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association national poll which was released today, Penn State was ranked seventh for the third-consecutive week. Penn State has been ranked as high as fourth in the NFHCA poll. Old Dominion is the top-ranked team this week, followed by North Carolina, NCAA Champion Maryland, Wake Forest, Big Ten regular season champion Michigan and Princeton. Rounding out the top 10 are Massachusetts in eighth, Virginia in ninth and Connecticut in tenth.

Penn State will be at the Big Ten Championships this weekend. Seeded second, the Lions play seventh-seeded Indiana in the first round on Friday, November 3 at 10 a.m. If the Lions advance, they will play on Saturday, November 4 at 2 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, November 5 at 1 p.m. The Big Ten Tournament is being hosted by the University of Michigan.
