Penn State is Seeded Second at Big Ten Tournament




STATE COLLEGE, Pa., October 30, 2000 - Big Ten Conference officials announced today the 2000 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament brackets, and Penn State is the second seed in the annual event. The tournament, which will be hosted by the University of Michigan, is scheduled for November 3-5. The Lady Lions (15-4, 5-1 Big Ten) plays Indiana (1-11, 0-6 Big Ten) in the first round on November 3 at 10 a.m.

Penn State lost just one regular season Big Ten game this season. Big Ten regular season champion Michigan visited Bigler Field and went home with a 1-0 victory over the Lions. The Wolverines have not lost to a Big Ten team and earned the number one seed in the tournament, as well as a first-round bye.

If the Lions win on Friday, they will face either #3 Iowa or #6 Michigan State on Saturday, November 4 at 2 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, November 5 at 1 p.m. The winner of the seven-team tournament receives the Conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament brackets will be announced on November 7. Full tournament bracket and game times are listed below.

Friday, Nov. 3- QUARTERFINALS:
Game 1: #2 PENN STATE vs. #7 Indiana, 10 a.m. ET
Game 2: #3 Iowa vs. #6 Michigan State, 12 p.m. ET
Game 3: #4 Ohio State vs. #5 Northwestern, 2 p.m. ET

Saturday, Nov. 4- SEMIFINALS
Game 5: #1 Michigan vs. winner of game 3, 11:30 a.m. ET
Game 6: winners of games 1 & 2, 2 p.m. ET

Sunday, Nov. 5- FINAL
Game 7: winners of games 5 & 6, 1 p.m. ET
