Penn State Preparing to Host Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament




UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2003) - Head coach Charlene Morrett and the Penn State Field Hockey team have one game remaining on its schedule after today, but the team is making preparations to play host to the 2003 Big Ten Conference Field Hockey Tournament Nov. 7-9 at Bigler Field.

The Nittany Lions are 14-4 and ranked seventh in the latest STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll heading into tonight's game versus Villanova, 7 p.m. at Bigler Field. Penn State will close out its regular season with a match versus No. 6 Michigan 7 p.m. Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Wolverines, No. 5 Michigan State and No. 15 Ohio State are currently in a three-way tie for the conference lead with a 4-1 mark in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions are 3-2 in conference action, but are 8-1 on Bigler Field this season.

The tournament will kick off with three games on Nov. 7. The Big Ten Conference's No. 2 seed will play the seventh seed at 10 a.m. No. 4 will play No. 5 at 12:30 p.m. and No. 3 will play No. 6 at 3 p.m. The regular-season conference championship will receive a bye in the first round.

The No. 1 seed will play the winner of No. 4/5 at 11 a.m. Nov. 8 and the No. 2/7 winner will play No. 3/6 at 2 p.m.

The Tournament Final will be held Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Bigler Field.

Tickets are available at the Penn State ticket office by calling 1-800-833-5533 or 814-863-1000. An all-session pass will be availabe up until the gates open on Nov. 7. The cost for the all-session pass is $10 for adults and $5 for students, youths and senior citizens.

Single-day tickets will be $4 for adults and $2 for students, youths and senior citizens. There will also be a $1 group rate for groups of 10 or more, who are 18 and under.
