UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. October 5, 2004 - Junior back Molly Schriver (Kenilworth, Ill.) won her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor Monday. Schriver helped lead the No. 19 Penn State field hockey team to shutouts over Princeton, Indiana, and West Chester last week. Char Morett's team did not allow a shot on goal against West Chester.

This marks the third time a Nittany Lion has captured the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Goalkeeper Megan Akstin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) won the award Sept, 13 and Sara Cahill snagged the award the very next week.

Penn State (8-5) has seven shutouts on the season. The Nittany Lions have recorded three straight shutouts twice this season, the first time they have accomplished that feat since 1993.

The Nittany Lions head to Michigan State Saturday, Oct. 9 for a 6 p.m. matchup vs. the Spartans, and then return home Friday, Oct. 15 vs. Iowa. For more information on Penn State field hockey and Nittany Lion athletics, visit www.GoPSUsports.com.
