No. 8 Penn State Field Hockey Wins at No. 20 Indiana 2-1
Bloomington, Ind., October 3, 2003 - The No. 8 Penn State field hockey team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat No. 20 Indiana 2-1 in Bloomington on Friday.
The win improves the Nittany Lions¡¯ record to 10-2 overall and evens its Big ten mark at 1-1. The Hoosiers fall to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Lydia Schrott gave Indiana the 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal just 4:06 into the contest.
Heather Conroy (Duncannon, Pa.) tied the game up for Penn State at the 23:49 mark before Amanda Eckert (Lititz, Pa.) scored the eventual game-winner less than five minutes later to make the score 2-1.
Penn State goalkeeper Annie Zinkavich (Kingston, Pa.0 made six saves in the win.
The Nittany Lions won despite being outshot 11-10 by the Hoosiers and attempting five penalty corners to Indiana¡¯s six.
Penn State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET).
