Penn State's Cahill named to the site's "honor roll" list, recognizing top performances from the previous week.
UNIVERSITY PARK Pa. September 17, 2004 - The national website womensfieldhockey.com has recognized Penn State junior Sara Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) as one of the top field hockey performers in the nation over the past week. The junior back was named to the site's "honor roll," recognizing Cahill with her outstanding performance. Cahill, who was also named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, anchored a strong defense that held the Nittany Lions' three opponents last week scoreless, while the team went 3-0 over the stretch. It was the first time that the Nittany Lions (4-4) had tallied three straight shutouts since 1996. In addition, Cahill and the Lions limited Lafayette to just two shots on Friday, while allowing just five from Temple and seven from Saint Joseph's.
The website also publishes a poll, and have the Nittany Lions at No. 14.
In the coaches poll, produced in partnership with STX Field Hockey, the Lions moved up to spots to No. 17.
The Lions are on the road this week, taking on Syracuse tomorrow at 4 p.m. and Ohio State Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. The team returns home Sept. 28 vs. Princeton for a 6 p.m. match. For more information on field hockey and Penn State athletics, visit www.GoPSUsports.com.
